Part-time, 24 hours/weekDay shift, primarily 8:00 am to 5:00 pmOnsiteSummary:Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and experienced Chaplaincy Consultant to join our team in a temporary, part-time capacity. This individual will be responsible for training and mentoring new chaplaincy staff, supporting the current chaplaincy team, and ensuring adequate coverage for all chaplaincy services. Working in partnership with and under the direction of the Chief Engagement Officer, the Chaplaincy Consultant will ensure that the needs of the department, hospital, and staff are effectively addressed, supporting the spiritual and emotional well-being of our patients, families, and healthcare team. Responsibilities:1. Staff Training & Mentorship: Lead and facilitate the orientation and training of new chaplains. Provide ongoing professional development and support to chaplain staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide spiritual care in alignment with hospital policies, values, and patient needs. 2. Team Support & Development: Offer guidance, feedback, and emotional support to the chaplaincy team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Ensure that all chaplains have the tools and resources they need to provide exceptional care. 3. Chaplaincy Coverage: Oversee the scheduling and distribution of chaplaincy services to ensure that sufficient coverage is maintained for patients, families, and staff members, including on-call availability as required. Ensure no gaps in the delivery of spiritual care. 4. Collaboration with Leadership: Partner closely with the Chief Engagement Officer to align chaplaincy services with the hospital's broader mission and inclusion initiatives. Work to ensure that both the department and organizational needs are met through effective leadership and collaboration. 5. Spiritual & Emotional Support: Provide direct spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff as needed, ensuring that the chaplaincy services are responsive and sensitive to the diverse needs of the hospital community. 6. Staff Management & Efficiency: Manage chaplaincy staff to maximize efficiency, utilizing sound judgment to balance time and resources effectively. Encourage the team to prioritize tasks and meet departmental goals while maintaining a high standard of spiritual care. 7. Enhanced Department Goals: Support and contribute to the development of enhanced goals for the department, aligning chaplaincy services with the hospital's strategic initiatives and fostering continuous improvement. 8. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of chaplaincy services provided, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and accreditation standards. Report regularly on chaplaincy activities and team progress to the Chief Engagement Officer. 9. Cultural Competency: Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion in all aspects of work, particularly in providing culturally competent spiritual care to patients and families from various religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds. Other information:Education and Experience: - Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree. - Board Certification as a Chaplain (e.g., Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, etc.). - Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chaplaincy role, with experience in leadership or supervisory roles required. - Strong interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills with the ability to offer spiritual and emotional support in a hospital setting. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, staff, and leadership teams. - Ability to manage scheduling and ensure appropriate coverage for chaplaincy services. - Knowledge of healthcare chaplaincy standards, ethics, and best practices. - Commitment to Akron Children's Hospital's values, mission, and promises. -
